SHARK CAGE DIVING IN SOUTH AFRICA

SHARK CAGE DIVING IN SOUTH AFRICA

‘Shark Alley’ is the channel between 2 islands located in the Western Cape Region of South Africa; Dyer Island (home to the endangered African Penguin and various migrating birds) and Geyser Rock (supports a colony of 60,000 Cape Fur Seals).  Shark Alley is protected from the worst of the Southern Atlantic’s weather and is our location for White Shark Cage Diving in South Africa.

Shark Diving trips are run year round and departure times vary depending on weather and tides.  Trips start from Kleinsbaai Harbour between 06.00 and 12.00 hrs.  Trips last between 4 and 5 hours. On arrival at the Shark Diving outfit, be welcomed with a continental breakfast and a trip briefing.  Depart on the boat and head – depending on weather and sea conditions at the time – to Dyer island, Joubert’s Dam, or another location.   White Sharks are attracted using a special “chum” mixture resulting in a 99% chance of seeing some sharks! Enter the cage once the sharks are close in to the boat. These trips offer great opportunities to photograph these apex predators while in their natural environment both from the boat and inside the cage.
Viewing months:
Winter months, May- September,  are normally the best shark viewing months because sharks are more plentiful and water visibility is generally better than during summer months when water temperature is normally higher due to North-Westerly winds.
About the dive:
The cage is a floating-variety type, custom-built to the highest quality standard with 12mm galvanized steel mesh. No experience is required for entering into the cage.  One can hold their breath while submerging themselves into the water, or breathe from an underwater breathing apparatus.
