A Day out of Cape Peninsula

A Day out of Cape Peninsula, South Africa

Depart from Simon’s Town and head for the canyons some 40 nm offshore from beautiful Cape Point. Enjoy the scenic view of the spectacular mountain coastline along the way. Travel on a comfortable, fast, and seaworthy 28’ Butt Cat, powered by twin 150 HP Suzuki 4 stroke outboard motors and guided by an experienced spearfishing guide. Spend the full day on the tuna grounds and hunt for giant Yellowfin and Bigeye Tuna, as well as the lesser Longfin Tuna. Wahoo, Dorado, and Marlin can also be found here with warmer water temperatures. Snacks and refreshments provided on board, along with chum for the spearfishing.

South Africa is known as the ‘Rainbow Nation’ for its diversity of people and colours of its landscapes.  Being the southern most country in Africa, it boasts coastlines from two oceans; the Indian Ocean along its east coast and the Atlantic Ocean along its western coast.

Around the southern tip of South Africa, where the two oceans converge, lies a very productive fishing ground.  Large schools of Yellowfin, Longfin, and Big Eye Tuna are found there, along with Marlin, Yellowtail, the occasional Wahoo, and some lesser reef species.

Day trips set off from Miller’s Point, a little south-east of Cape Town, and head to the deep canyons off Cape Point to hunt the large Yellowfin and Big Eye Tuna found there.  Longfin Tuna are also plentiful in the area.  Off the southern most point of the African Continent, Cape Agulhas, we head out to spearfish for Yellowtail and some reef species, along with the potential for Striped and Black Marlin.

Depending on one’s preferences, we offer day trips as an add on to a bigger trip to South Africa or spearfishing packages to include accommodation, the spearfishing, and other activities to be enjoyed while visiting this spectacular part of the world.
