Snorkelling with the ‘PUPPIES OF THE SEA’ in South Africa

Snorkelling with the PUPPIES OF THE SEA
SEAL SNORKELLING IN SOUTH AFRICA

Duiker Island is home to around five to ten thousand Cape Fur Seals. From the end of March through to the end of April, Seal pups begin to venture into the ocean and learn to swim, making this the best time for some great Seal interaction. These surprisingly fast swimming, agile, and playful mammals can swim up real close and fully interact in a playful manner with snorkelling humans. Note that the seals are not fed or trained in any way.  They are wild animals behave naturally while in their own habitat.
For those that do not fancy going into the water, one can always come along, enjoy the ride, and observe human/seal interactions from the boat.

The team at Animal Ocean is too keen to share the beauty of the ocean and its most playful mammals with you. The 8m Rib (inflatable boats) take up to 10 snorkelers and will get you to the seals, quickly and safely. Fur seals are most active and abundant in the heat of Cape Town’s summer.

We provide all equipment including wetsuits, fins, masks and snorkels, a marine guide, boat ride, briefing, water, biscuits, hot chocolate and even hot water to pour in your wetsuit to heat you up. Bring with you a swim suit and a towel, sunscreen, a camera to register your encounter, motion sickness tablets and a rain jacket if booking as boat rider.

Notes:
Minimum age is 10 years old to snorkel and 6 years to view from the boat with a parent present.

Snorkelers need to be competent swimmers and comfortable in the water. The Atlantic ocean around Duiker Island is not always calm and we do snorkel in choppy conditions.

This is an ultimate wild animal encounter. Snorkel with Seals in their own environment. They are surprisingly fast and playful in the water. Enjoy their fun and play while learning more about these animals and their behaviour through your experienced guides. This activity is added as an extra activity to a comprehensive itinerary.
