WHALE WATCHING IN SOUTH AFRICA

WHALE WATCHING IN SOUTH AFRICA

Annually, from roughly June to December, Hermanus is known as a mecca for Whale Watching. Southern Right and Humpback Whales choose the area to mate and give birth. Trips depart from the local harbour and head out to sea to observe these beautiful mammals.  One can also expect to see Bryde’s Whales, which reside in the temperate waters of South Africa.
GET INSPIRED
The Whales can be approached to a distance of approximately 50 m, so you get right up close and personal.  While the distance is close, it is far enough for the animals to behave naturally in their natural habitat. Being naturally curious, the Whales often swim right up to the boat, so close that you can smell their breath! Watch them in action as they breach and play in the waters around the boat.  Learn more about these magnificent animals through our experienced Whale ?Watching guides .

This short adventure lasts approximately 2 hours and with daily departures at 09:00 hrs, 12:00 hrs, and 15:00 hrs between June and December.

On this trip, expect to encounter: Southern Right, Bryde’s and Humpback Whales, Common and Bottlenose Dolphins, Cape Fur Seals, African Penguins, and a myriad of sea bird species.
